Can I claim simplified expenses?

< 1 min read

Yes, if you are a sole trader or business partner (not a limited company), you can use simplified expenses for certain costs. Simplified expenses use flat rates set by HMRC instead of working out the exact business proportion of your costs. This makes your accounting much simpler. For example, rather than calculating the exact business use of your home, you can use a flat monthly rate based on the number of hours you work from home. Similarly, for vehicles used for both business and personal journeys, you can use the standard mileage rates instead of claiming actual running costs. You can only use simplified expenses for vehicles, working from home, and living at your business premises.
