What is Auto-enrolment of pensions?

< 1 min read

Auto-enrolment is a government scheme that requires all employers to automatically enrol eligible workers into a workplace pension scheme and make contributions on their behalf. You are eligible if you are aged between 22 and the State Pension age, earn more than £10,000 a year, and work in the UK. Once enrolled, both you and your employer contribute a percentage of your qualifying earnings into the pension pot. Currently, the minimum total contribution is 8%, with at least 3% coming from your employer. While you are enrolled automatically, you have the right to opt out if you choose, though you will lose out on your employer’s contributions.
