Do I need to file a Self Assessment tax return SA100?

< 1 min read

Not everyone needs to file a Self Assessment return. You need to file one if you are self-employed as a sole trader and earned more than £1,000, if you are a partner in a business partnership, if your annual income is over £100,000, if you received income from renting out property, if you have untaxed income such as investment income or foreign income, or if you need to claim certain tax reliefs. You may also need to file if you or your partner received Child Benefit and either of you earned more than £50,000 (the High Income Child Benefit Charge). If you are unsure, HMRC has an online tool that helps you check whether you need to complete a return.
